INTRODUCTORY PHYSICS LABORATORY

SAFETY
Experimental science is potentially hazardous. The Physics Division, the
University of Paisley and I are not responsible for any accident, injury
or damage resulting from the use of this Laboratory Manual. You must take
responsibility when attending or managing your laboratory to ensure that
you take all necessary safety precautions. Similarly when constructing
equipment for your laboratory you must take responsibility to ensure it
is safe and meets your local safety regulations.
This page tells you about some of the electricity, heat and waves experiments
in our first year physics lab. I hope to gradually improve the format,
add photos and make generally make it interesting for students and staff.
At the moment, the laboratory instruction sheets are as follows:
ELECTRICITY
HEAT
WAVES
MECHANICS
LEAST SQUARES FITTING SPREADSHEET
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Some of these experiments are widespread use, some of them are inspired
by Professor Peter Main's first year lab at the University of Nottingham
(where I was a lab demonstrator during my Ph.D.) and some I hope are original.
Thanks also to the technical staff here who assembled most of these experiments.
